Which age group is most commonly associated with neuroblastoma?

Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer that primarily affects young children, typically arising from immature nerve cells in the adrenal glands or sympathetic nervous system. It is most commonly diagnosed in children between 1 and 2 years of age. This age group has the highest incidence of neuroblastoma, as the tumor often presents during this time when children are transitioning from infancy into early toddlerhood.

In infants under 1 year, while neuroblastoma can still occur, the peak incidence and most common presentations occur slightly later. Children aged 2 to 5 years do continue to have cases of neuroblastoma, but the frequency diminishes compared to the 1 to 2-year-old population. As children enter adolescence, the association with neuroblastoma significantly decreases, as it is quite rare in this age group. Thus, the highest risk and prevalence of neuroblastoma are indeed associated with children aged 1 to 2 years.
